Extra, Extra! Thailand’s Flooding Worst in Decades… But Bangkok Bangs On

As floodwaters inch closer and closer to central Bangkok, Bangkok finally makes world news for something other than it’s plethora of gender-changing and breast-altering facilities...

It all started in late July, when monsoon rains filled dams north of Bangkok to capacity.  In an attempt to save the dams, authorities were forced to release more than 9 billion cubic meters of water down rivers that ended in Bangkok.  According to the Thai government, there was 40% more rain than usual this past year (thank you global warming).  As of now, train services to northern provinces have been cancelled (but bus services still go on) and evacuations have been ordered in almost a quarter of Bangkok’s 50 districts, but Suvarnabhumi International Airport and most public transport links within the city are unaffected.  On the plus side though, Laos is still up and running and flood free!
