Our People

Every Stray Asia group is accompanied by an awesome, experienced English-speaking Tour Leader, who comes with expert knowledge, invaluable insight and more than a few stories!

These dudes and dudettes are consistently mentioned when passengers talk about their favourite things on Stray. They will also book accommodation and activities on your behalf, giving you one less thing to worry about, help you interpret signs, menus and communicate at the homestays and remote villages, explain the local history, and show you the best place to have a beer.

We believe employing local guides is not only the right thing to do to support the countries that we travel in, it also provides the best experience for our customers too.

"Thank you to all of the amazing Stray guides who helped us along the way. All of the guides always ensured all the needs of the group were met, while also providing both historical and current information about the city we were in or the country as a whole. Every single guide was enthusiastic and seemed genuinely passionate about making our SE Asia adventure the best they possibly could. All guides were so happy to help us plan and book anything we wanted and I always felt safe and comfortable travelling with them. The guides made all of the difference in our trip and were an invaluable asset to our trip. I know we both will never forget them and the impact they had on not only our trip, but the life lessons we have learned while travelling."

Kham Oun

Asia Guide Khamoun Lorvanin

Where are you from? Luang Prabang, Laos

What's your favourite "off the beaten track" experience?

My favourite off the beaten track experience in Laos is the Mekong River cruise from Thailand to Lao and blessing Ceremony at the homestay. These Lao customs create friendships. In Vang Vieng I love going swimming at the Spring River,  the cave and kayaking on the Nam song River, that's amazing.

In Thailand I really like Chiang Mai. There's a lot to do like Thai boxing and the Sunday market. It's a lot of fun even though it is not really off the beaten track :)

What our customers say:

"Oun was amazing and we had a brilliant time with him. It felt like we were travelling with a friend who would also sort anything out for us."

The Mekong River cruise from Thailand to Laos and blessing ceremony at homestay is unique and the Lao customs make friendships and deep memories between local villagers and travellers!

In Luang Prabang and Kong Lor there are also great places to go swimming in beautiful locations.  The sunset view from the top of Mount Phousi in Luang Prabang is a must-do!

What our customers say:

"Sunny has been an incredible tour guide. We had him from Luang Prabang to Siem Reap and he's been great. He acquired in-depth knowledge about every place we stopped. He answered any questions we had with detail, was very helpful booking both accommodation and activities. He's also brought a lot of humour to the group. I would highly recommend Sunny as a tour guide- anyone would be lucky to have him! He's truly awesome, thank you for everything Sunny, we will miss you!"

He is deeply devoted to the Asian culture, and Laotian in particular, and he always made sure to convey that culture whenever visiting any of the remarkable sites along the way.
