Travel Passes

  1. The points on this website make up all of the terms of contract between Straysia Ltd ('Stray' or 'us/we') and the customer.
  2. Stray Asia products are operated by Straysia Ltd (“Stray Asia”). All prices are in USD and include tax.
  3. Prices listed on Stray's website are rounded. The final amount charged may be +/- 0.5 cents of the advertised price.
  4. Stray’s passes are valid for travel once in one direction for the route identified only.
  5. Stray’s passes are valid for 12 months from the first day of travel (subject to any normal visa restrictions). The pass must be activated within 12 months of purchase.
  6. Failure to meet a reserved departure will result in the cancellation of that travel day. Any subsequent travel reservations will be left as open-dated, so you must re-book online to reserve your seats. Failure to meet a reserved train departure in Thailand will result in the passenger paying for these sectors on their next desired departure date. If travelling on Pagoda Pass refer to 35.
  7. Stray passes are only valid for the person whose name they were originally issued for and are non-transferrable. You will be ID checked.
  8. Some sectors may require a minimum number of passengers to operate, and are subject to change at any time. In circumstances where minimum numbers are not reached an alternative may be offered or a smaller vehicle used. If a tour is cancelled due to minimum numbers not being reached passengers will be notified by email at least 48 hours in advance. Passengers may be offered an alternative option or a refund proportionate to the cancelled sectors.
  9. Cancellations: If you cancel your Pass a cancellation fee will apply. See Stray's Cancellation Policy
  10. Changing a start date: If you purchased a Stray pass with 'travel anytime conditions’, you can change your start date to any available date within 12 months of the original booking.   If you purchased a Pass on promotion for a specific travel date (or travel period) and wish to change to a start date outside of the promotional terms, you can do so provided it is within 12 months of the original purchase. If the rate of the new departure is more than the original rate paid, you will be required to pay the difference. If the rate of the new departure date is less, any due rebate would be calculated as the difference less the applicable cancellation fee on the original booking.
  11. Changing to an alternative Pass/Tour:  If you wish to change to an alternative Stray pass, you may do so provided the original booking and has been paid for in full. If you are upgrading to a higher value pass, you will be required to pay the difference. If you are downgrading to a lower value product, any due rebate would be calculated as the difference less the applicable cancellation fee on the original booking.
  12. Stray may vary any fares, routes, activities, transport modes, number of departure days, departure times, without notice and at its discretion – because of the nature of our product and the environment in which we operate.
  13. Stray is not a common carrier and therefore can refuse to carry a person whose behavior is detrimental to the enjoyment of the group. By travelling with Stray you agree to accept the authority of the Tour Leader and accept their decisions. Our staff is entitled to a safe working environment and our passengers to a great holiday. Any threats to safety, being physical or verbal, or inappropriate behaviour may result in removal from the trip. If a Tour Leader requires a passenger to leave the trip no refunds will be given and that passenger will be responsible for their own travel costs from that point.
  14. Travel agent vouchers or emailed pass confirmations must be exchanged for the correct Stray ticket for your travel sectors. This can be done at Stray’s offices in Bangkok and Luang Prabang, or with your Tour Leader at any other point. You can re-book sectors online. We recommend your 1st travel day should be booked/confirmed 1 week prior to departure. Sector bookings need to be made before 5pm on the day prior to departure to show on the Tour Leader’s lists. If travelling on the Pagoda Pass - refer here
  15. Published times and itineraries. Stray will endeavour to adhere to published/stated departure, arrival and general travel times but sometimes we end up doing other stuff so will not be liable for any failure to meet those times. We do make a concerted effort to ensure the accuracy of our brochure and web content however we cannot be held responsible for any error or unintentional misrepresentation that may occur. If travelling on the Pagoda Pass refer here
  16. Stray will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of or consequential upon, directly or indirectly, any abandonment of, or delay in, any departure howsoever caused.
  17. While all care will be taken, Stray will not be held liable for any sickness or injury to any customer or any damage to or loss of any property while they are utilising any of the services which Stray provides or markets.
  18. Where the services of another operator are provided for in the “pass” it is agreed and understood that Stray is acting only as an agent for the passengers to arrange such services and accepts no responsibility whatsoever for any default of the operator.
  19. Stray accepts no responsibility for any independently operated activity you choose to undertake along the route.
  20. Fuel – these are crazy times. We have got the most fuel efficient buses to minimalise our use but we still reserve the right to put in place a fuel surcharge in addition to the pass price (at any time post ticket purchase) if fuel prices increase significantly during the pricing validity. Any surcharge will be payable to the driver on your first day of travel. It will be a maximum of US$30 and will be clearly outlined online if initiated.
  21. These terms and conditions apply to the extent that they are NOT inconsistent with or in contravention of any obligation imposed on Stray by Laos/Thailand/Cambodia/Vietnam/Myanmar law.
  22. Where a new brochure has been published (as shown by the validity date) it supercedes all older brochures.
  23. There is no travel insurance cover included in the price of a Stray pass. Adequate and valid travel insurance is compulsory to travel on Stray. Your travel insurance must cover accidents, injury, illness and death medical expenses, including any related to pre-existing medical conditions, emergency repatriation (including helicopter rescue and air ambulance where applicable) and personal liability. Stray also recommends that it covers cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. You must carry proof of insurance with you while travelling and produce it on request. Your trip may be cancelled or you may be removed from a tour if you cannot provide proof of travel insurance at any time. We recommend World Nomads as a good backpacker travel option because they cover a range of activities and adventure sports.
  24. Disputes. Should you wish to raise any issues with your trip – please in the first instance advise your Tour Leader of your concern. If your issue is not resolved, please email our Reservations office support@straytravel.asia as soon as reasonably possible, and within 28 days to enable us to research your concern. We will not consider claims made after 28 days. Please provide a postal address so we can provide a written response.
  25. Anything listed in the brochure or on this website as free is not included in the ticket price as it is FREE and non-refundable or transferable, no matter what the circumstances.
  26. Stray will wait for a reasonable amount of time at border crossings but if for any reason there is an unreasonable delay (caused by the passenger) then Stray will depart without you and you will have to get the next tour or catch up with the tour you are on at your own time and expense. It is your responsibility to carry a valid passport and appropriate visas while travelling on any Stray services. Please see Stray's Travel Information section for more information on visas.
  27. You may have to pay for tuk tuks and other forms of transport in some places to access certain activities. These will be made aware to you by your Tour Leaders.
  28. Unpredictable things can happen in South-East Asia (road slips, crashes, political instability, falling in love with Laos) and we will deal with these as best as possible however no refunds will be given due to unforeseen circumstances.
  29. If you are caught with non-prescription or illegal drugs while travelling with Stray in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar any resulting consequences (incarceration, capital punishment and even death) will result in your pass being nullified (voided). Stray takes no responsibility for passengers taking non-prescription drugs and will refuse to carry anyone carrying illegal drugs.
  30. Be aware that some times of the year (particularly during wet season!) rain may penetrate our rooftop luggage storage system (used when inside storage is not available) and there is potential for your bags to get (very) wet.
  31. If you travel on Stray you consent to us using images of you taken while on your Stray trip for advertising and promotional purposes worldwide, royalty-free in any medium. Make your mother proud and become a Stray supermodel!
  32. Children: Our Stray Asia travel products are not suited to children under 12 years. 12 – 17 year old's may travel if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. They are entitled to a 15% discount off the full retail price of Flexi Tours and 25% off the full retail price of Hop on Hop off travel passes based on their age at the time of commencing travel (not booking).
  33. Deposit payments: A deposit of 15% of the total pass value is required upon booking. Full payment is required within 6 months of the booking or a minimum of 14+ days prior to departure (whichever comes first).  If the full payment is not received in the designated time frame, Stray reserves the right to release any existing booking. Deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
  34. Hold My SeatA payment of $10 is paid to secure the initial booking. Full payment is required within 72 hours of the booking or a minimum of 48 hours prior to departure (whichever comes first). The $10 payment is non-refundable and non-transferable. If the full payment is not received in the designated time frame, Stray will release the booking.
  35. Promotions with value-adds: A value added product (which could be a tour, pass, accommodation, activity or good) is a product which is included free of charge with the purchase of another Stray product. Value-added products cannot be sold, transferred into another travellers name, exchanged for a refund or an alternative product. If a traveller is unable to redeem the value-add product within 12 months of the original purchase it is forfeited. Once travel has commenced, Stray's standard cancellation policy applies and neither of the bundled products is subject to a refund. If a promotion has bespoke terms or conditions for a value-added offer (e.g. travel date restrictions) these will supersede our standard conditions.
  36. General competition terms: Stray hop-on hop-off passes included as part of a competition or prize pack cannot be exchanged for cash, sold or transferred to another person. Passes are valid for 12 months of announcement after which they are forfeited. These generic terms apply unless a variation is specified in the competition's terms.
  37. If you purchase a Stray product you consent to receiving communication from Stray. Stray will not sell your details 'cause that's not cool! You can always opt out of Stray communication using the unsubscribe link in the footer of our emails. View Stray's Privacy Policy.

Myanmar  - Pagoda Pass:

In addition to the Terms & Conditions for Travel Passes stated above, the following terms apply to travel on the Pagoda Pass (Myanmar):

  1. Travel pass features: The Pagoda pass is a 10 day guided travel pass with activity inclusions along the way as per the itinerary. The travel pass does not offer the ‘hop-on hop-off facility’ during low season (1 April  - 31 Oct) when only one departure per week operates.  If a passenger opts to hop-off the tour their subsequent travel legs can be arranged (refer to Pagoda Pass clause 6) however these will be unguided.  Accommodation is provided pay-as-you-go, which can be booked through your Tour Leader at Stray preferred providers.
  2. Guides Departures: Stray’s guided Pagoda Pass departs monthly during low season (April - Oct) and weekly during high season (Nov - March). You can elect to travel on alternative days to the published ‘guided’ timetable however these sectors will be unguided. In this situation, Stray is acting only as an agent and does not accept liability for the services provided by the default operator.
  3. Transport: In Myanmar we use quality intercity coach services for transport.
  4. Booking travel: Bookings must be received at least 7 days prior to a scheduled departure.
  5. Minimum numbers: The Pagoda Pass requires a minimum of 3 persons to go ahead. You will be notified at least 21 days prior to departure if minimum numbers are not achieved and the trip is cancelled. If a booking is cancelled you will offered a full refund or an alternative travel date.
  6. Failure to meet a booked departure / or cancellation of a travel sector: If a passenger fails to meet their scheduled departure(s), where a ticket has already been issued, a replacement ticket will be at the passenger’s expense. Amendments or a cancellation of any pre-booked travel sector within 5 days of the confirmed departure will result in forfeiting that sector and a new ticket will be issued at the passenger’s expense. If the group has departed, subsequent travel will be unguided.
  7. Travel schedule: Stray will endeavour to adhere to the published departure and arrival times listed. However as the transport is operated by a third party coach service Stray cannot be held responsible or liable for changes, disruptions or failure to meet the published times
  8. Cancellation of full pass: The Pagoda Pass is subject to Stray's Cancellation Policy. Once travel has commenced, passes are non-refundable or transferable.
